Wednesday 19th SeptemberFirst Block - 2 teachers and kids - Year 3 and 4Second Block - 3 teachers and kids from Year 1/ 2 classesThird Block - 2 teachers from Senior School - Year 5 / 6
From Sue:Tuesday - staff meeting. I hope I talked to you about this as well. I know we discussed this ages ago. It was going to be something on ipads as well. Us (the ICT team) want to make sure we are using the ipads effectively to support learning. Just looked at the timetable for Tuesday. All areas of the school have had a session with you. Would it work to have a sharing time of the apps that have been learnt and how we could use them in the classroom along with other ways each app could be used ?????
Paula's ideas - Let's look at 'Apps to support and nurture Writing and Reflection'
Bilingual Class Year 3/4's Fotopedia (Heritage) (Free) and Skitch (Free)
Year 5/6's Epic Citadel (Free) and Skitch (Free) and Tappy Memories ($1.29)

Year 1/2 Drawing Pad ($2.59) and Sonic Pics ($4.19)
Year 0 and Bilingual Class Year 0-2 - Hungry Fish (Intro to basic use)....then moving onto creation rather than consumption = Puppet Pals, Sock Puppets and Drawing Pad

Staff Meeting: One person from each of the teams that share with me to share back to staff.

24th August
First block - with the Seniors as you've outlined below in red. Jonnina and Liz M will be with you and a small group of kids. We'll use the big computers in the library I think.

Then Sheree and Jonnina can talk with you about blogs - linking learning / what else can be done.

Happy to take kids using Pizap (will they have access to equipment etc?) I think the 45minutes with kids and then 45 minutes one on one with teachers would be a better use of time. We could cover a lot in the 45 minutes and they would get to see a range of 'options' and choose 'best fit' for their learners/purpose.

The middle block Val and I would still like to do something with iPads. We fully hear what you are saying about "whole class"

We both came to your workshop - downloaded lots of the apps but our problem is still how to use them effectively or should I say use them at all. We wonder whether you could work with a "small" number of chn using one / some of the apps.

Or a group from my class for a time and a group from Val's class for a time

Or a group for some of the time and some time just with me and Val.

We really don't know the best option but we are very conscious we have 16 ipads that for a lot of time are not being used effectively

How about you/Val and who ever else (Lead team perhaps) having some PD around Collaborative Apps, Creation versus consumption etc I could show you a range of apps that could fit across the curriculum and which support reflection and thinking. Also apps for creating e-books and storytelling across all levels - especially ones that can be added to your blogs. You could download ones you don't have and then actually use them yourselves and find what will work for you in your classrooms.

  • We added a 'Page View' counter to both blogs......watch the 'hits' rather than than the 'comments'.
  • We need to educate our parents - cater for this e.g.. 9.00 kids show parents how to view, comment (also possibly a 5 o'clock meeting to cater for this e that work?)
  • Pizap - "Greenscreening" - using 'Edit Photo' - add the background photo first, then choose 'Cut out', paint over what you want to keep, resize etc to suit, when happy choose 'finish' then 'download'.........then upload to blog. (We went through this process and added a 'test' to our blogs which we then deleted off.
  • Discussed how to add a gadget (Clock etc) and how to deal with code on the blog.

9.45 - 10. 30 Haylee and Ginny
Viewed blogs did PD around
  • Haylee wanted to know how to blog from her iPhone (yay!). She downloaded the Blogger app (also discussed how to shut down open Apps).
  • Haylee explored Pizap.com Collage tool and had a very quick show and tell re Greenscreening within it (I suggested she see Liz and Sheree re the how to).
  • Ginny wanted to sign up and create student identities in Voicethread. (Paula to change her account to an educators account once signed up).
  • Ginny added student images to individual student identities. (going to finish this independently later).

  • Discussed and explored tools for recording and capturing voice e.g. Easi Speak, Chirbit, Fotobabble

11.45 - 12.30 Mary and Jonnina
Viewed blogs did PD around
  • Mary - Photos (revisited 'purpose' - if she doesn't revisit regularly it won't become 'easier')
  • Jonnina - settings changed to 'no moderation' 'Labels' added to the sidebar of the blog (Goal - to explore with Youblisher and to embed it in her blog e.g. Autumn)

1.30 - 2.15 Liz M and Val M/Sue (Adding to Milestone 5 Kawaha Point Wiki Page)
  • Liz - adding a PhotoPeach to the blog using the HTML button.
  • Added an Auto Collage photo to post area (all the photo's were taken by students of their Japanese visitors)
  • A real shift from teacher to student ownership with Liz' blog! Have added blog address to the Milestone 5 wiki

2.15 - 3.00 Mikaere and Val M (Sue on CRT but coming to session to support Milestone reflection)
  • Changed the background in his 'post' area so that individual posts stand out and make the teaching and learning 'clearer'
  • Mikaere, added 'Labels' to his blog so that individual children's learning can be 'filtered'.
  • Viewed other class blogs for inspiration and to show 'possibilities'.
  • Mikaere has a lot of student work sitting on the server in folders and his next step is to upload this content on to the blog.
